Portal Officially Closes with Record Number of Entries
When it closed April 22, 2,412 men’s players had entered the transfer portal. In the portal chaos that saw more players enter than the 2,100 from a season ago, Baylor and Indiana faced entire roster rebuilds. The Hoosiers sit atop The Portal Report’s team rankings as of April 27, with nine players committed. New coach Darian DeVries boasts a deep portal class. His son, 6-foot-7 senior guard Tucker DeVries (dad and son came from West Virginia), leads the way; he’s the No. 11 player in TPR’s rankings. Big Ten rivals Nebraska (No. 2), Wisconsin (No. 6), Michigan (No. 8) and Purdue (No. 10) also are in the current TPR top 10.
Former Top-50 Recruit Continues Search
Following the best season of his college career as a sophomore at Alabama in 2023-24, 6-foot-6 junior guard Rylan Griffen transferred to Kansas. After seeing a diminished role in Lawrence, Griffen is considering a return to the Crimson Tide, per reports. Griffen visited his former school Friday. Kentucky, previously in the running for Griffen, withdrew its interest following the commitment of 6-foot-5 junior guard Denzel Aberdeen, who helped Florida win the national title. Griffen started 33 games as a sophomore for the Tide, averaging a career-high 11.2 points; he had 19 points in Alabama’s Sweet Sixteen victory over No. 1 seed North Carolina.

Son of Former NBA Star Narrows List to Three
Andrej Stojaković, a 6-foot-7 sophomore guard and the son of three-time NBA All-Star Peja Stojaković, has narrowed his options to three out of the portal. He listed North Carolina, Illinois and Stanford, where he played as a freshman, as the trio that made the cut Sunday. As a freshman for the Cardinal, Stojaković averaged 7.8 points per game, then transferred to rival California. This past season, Stojaković averaged 17.9 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Golden Bears. Although a return to Stanford could be in the cards for Stojaković, keep an eye on Illinois; Illini assistant Orlando Antigua was at Kentucky when the Wildcats recruited Stojaković out of high school.
Woj, Bonnies Add Another Portal Piece
On Sept. 18, Adrian Wojnarowski dropped one of the bigger “Woj Bombs” of his career as an NBA insider for ESPN, announcing his retirement from journalism. Shortly thereafter, he announced his decision to become general manager at St. Bonaventure, his alma mater. Sunday, the Bonnies earned a commitment from 6-foot-4 junior guard Amar’e Marshall, a transfer from Albany. After seeing minimal court time as a freshman at Hofstra, Marshall transferred to Albany, where he thrived in two seasons under coach Dwayne Killings. He started 63 games, averaging more than 15 points per game combined in the two seasons. Marshall joins Frank Mitchell, a 6-foot-8 junior forward who transferred from Minnesota and committed to the Bonnies on March 25.
National Champion Commits to Big Ten Squad
Although a foot injury limited 6-foot-8 junior Sam Alexis to just one game after Feb. 11, he earlier had carved out a role off the bench for national champion Florida in his sole season in Gainesville. After showing flashes in about 12 minutes per game, scoring in double figures in a trio of wins, Alexis entered the portal, then committed to Indiana on Thursday. Alexis’ addition adds experience and championship pedigree, which should help on a roster of players unfamiliar with one another. On the same day, Indiana landed a commitment from 6-foot-7 sophomore guard Nick Dorn, who averaged 15.2 points for Elon this past season.
Memphis Fills Haggerty Void with High-Level Scorer
When PJ Haggerty, a 6-foot-3 sophomore guard and the nation’s third-leading scorer, announced his decision to enter the portal, a clear need at point guard opened for Memphis. With the addition of 5-foot-11 junior guard Dug McDaniel, coach Penny Hardaway and his staff took a step toward rectifying that loss. As a sophomore at Michigan, McDaniel scored 33 points on two occasions, leading to his career-best 16.3 scoring average in 2023-24. After a season at Kansas State, where McDaniel averaged just over 11 points per game, he entered the portal and committed to Memphis on Thursday. Hardaway gave guards Haggerty and 6-foot senior Tyrese Hunter a lot of freedom, which led to career-high scoring numbers for both. Expect McDaniel to shine in Memphis.

Former Highly Touted Recruit Receiving Abundance of Interest
Curtis Givens III, a 6-foot-3 freshman guard and four-star recruit in the 2024 class out of powerhouse Montverde Academy, committed to LSU over offers from, among others, Florida, Indiana and UConn. But following an underwhelming first season at LSU, he entered the portal. Givens scored in double-figures four times this season, including against Florida. Since entering the portal, Givens has received interest from the likes of Ole Miss, Georgia, Villanova, Maryland, Iowa, Wake Forest, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. Keep an eye on the Aggies and assistant Frank Haith, who recruited Givens while an assistant at Texas.

After a season at Illinois and the past two at Georgetown, 6-foot-2 junior guard Jayden Epps chose Mississippi State on Friday for his third college stop. Epps averaged a career-high 18.5 points per game in 2023-24 as a sophomore for the Hoyas. Epps received interest from Missouri before committing to Mississippi State.

BYU Builds on Loaded Portal Class
From among a multitude of high-major interest that included a final three of BYU, LSU and Ohio State, 6-foot-6 sophomore guard Kennard Davis Jr. chose the Cougars. Davis spent the first two seasons of his career at Southern Illinois. After starting 10 games as a freshman, Davis displayed immense improvement this past season. He was second on the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game. Davis joins a stacked incoming group for the Cougars that includes five-star freshman wing AJ Dybsanta and 6-foot-1 guard Robert O. Wright III, who played well as a freshman at Baylor this past season before entering the portal.
Villanova gets a West Coast Transfer
As a four-star recruit out of Santa (Calif.) Mater Dei, in the L.A. suburbs, 6-foot-5 guard Devin Askew received an offer from Villanova. He chose Kentucky instead, and has had quite the college journey – and it will end at Villanova, as Askew has committed out of the portal. After a season each at Kentucky and Texas, Askew played two seasons at California (where injuries limited him to 19 games) and this past season at Long Beach State, where he finally broke out. Askew averaged 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the 49ers; he scored in double figures in all 30 games and had six games of at least 25. Askew fielded interest from Louisville, Pitt, USC, South Carolina, New Mexico, Stanford and UCSB before committing to Villanova.
